Take to the streets
On Saturday, July 2 Wake-Up Wal-Mart volunteer leaders will be going out in their community to sign up
Citizen Co-Sponsors of fair share for health care. (Note: Some volunteers are going out on alternative
dates between today and July 4 if this date does not work for them).
Our goal is to sign up over 5,000 Citizen Co-Sponsors of the Fair Share for Health Care Act across the
country. We are asking each volunteer to sign up at least 50 Citizen Co-Sponsors.
Here is how it works:
- Download materials. Download and print out the half-page Wal-Mart’s Health Care Crisis flyer and
sign up sheets. You can also download the one-page health care fact sheet so that you have all of
the information you will need to talk about the issue.
- Make copies of the half-page Wal-Mart Health Care Crisis flyer and sign up sheets.
- Pick a location and date for your action. We suggest going to a festival, 4th of July event,
farmer’s market or other location in your neighborhood where people will be gathered in large numbers.
Our goal is to find other citizens in your state who believe that Wal-Mart should pay its fair share for
health care.
- Recruit others to help. Call your friends, family, co-workers and others who will volunteer with you
in signing up supporters.
- Let us know what you are doing. Email the Wake-Up Wal-Mart campaign about your action at
field [at] wakeupwalmart.com. We will send you bumper stickers if we know about your action.
- Take to the Streets. Go out in your community on Saturday, July 2 (or your alternative date) and
sign up people who support large corporations, like Wal-Mart, paying their fair share for health care.
- Send in your data. At the bottom of the sign up sheets, there is a mailing address and a fax address
for the Wake-Up Wal-Mart campaign. Please send in your sign up sheets via fax or mail. We will enter
all of these supporters in the database and get back in touch with you to debrief your event.
Thank you for participating in the “Make Wal-Mart Care about Health Care” campaign. At the recent
shareholders meeting, Wal-Mart CEO Lee Scott said this is the most “sophisticated and coordinated”
campaign against a single company in U.S. history. Let’s continue to show Wal-Mart that we are not
going away until the largest company in the United States reflects our values of fairness and dignity.
