"Wal-Mart Warns of Democratic Win"
Back to its old tricks, Walmart is holding company meetings that warn its employees of dire consequences should Democrats win this year's presidential election. According to Walmart's spokesman, the meetings are taking place across the country.
Those who attended these meetings say the message was “that voting for Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Barack Obama would be tantamount to inviting unions in.”
Of course, Walmart denies that its meetings compel employees to vote Republican, though attendees beg to differ. As one employee said in the WSJ article:
I am not a stupid person. They were telling me how to vote

Why is Walmart so opposed to the Democratic party? For one, The company is terrified that Democratic gains this year will ensure passage of the Employee Free Choice Act. For Walmart, an organized workforce could spell higher wages and better benefits—two things the company has fought tirelessly to avoid.
Ironically, Walmart's CEO has been caught on the record, lamenting that it takes unions for the company to do right by its own employees. Unfortunately for those employees, Walmart continues its 48 year legacy of union-busting and advocating against workers rights issues.
Don't forget, the tactics outlined in today's story are part of a time honored strategy at Walmart. In 2006 Walmart hired Terry Nelson, political director for Bush-Cheney 2004, to operate an in-store “voter education program.” Then, Walmart's “education” program was a thin veneer over concerted attacks against Democratic politicians. Today, we're seeing more of the same.
Don't let Walmart strong-arm its employees into voting against their own interests. Help us let the public know about the tasteless, immoral, possibly illegal meetings organized by Walmart.
