Walmart uses company meetings and scare tactics to push employees away from voting for Dems
Today's Wall Street Journal feature on Walmart speaks for itself.

"Wal-Mart Warns of Democratic Win"

Back to its old tricks, Walmart is holding company meetings that warn its employees of dire consequences should Democrats win this year's presidential election. According to Walmart's spokesman, the meetings are taking place across the country.

Those who attended these meetings say the message was “that voting for Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Barack Obama would be tantamount to inviting unions in.”

Of course, Walmart denies that its meetings compel employees to vote Republican, though attendees beg to differ. As one employee said in the WSJ article:

I am not a stupid person. They were telling me how to vote

Help us spread the word about this breaking story. Use this page to tell your friends about Walmart's unabashed attempts to strong arm the voters employed in its stores.

Why is Walmart so opposed to the Democratic party? For one, The company is terrified that Democratic gains this year will ensure passage of the Employee Free Choice Act. For Walmart, an organized workforce could spell higher wages and better benefits—two things the company has fought tirelessly to avoid.

Ironically, Walmart's CEO has been caught on the record, lamenting that it takes unions for the company to do right by its own employees. Unfortunately for those employees, Walmart continues its 48 year legacy of union-busting and advocating against workers rights issues.

Don't forget, the tactics outlined in today's story are part of a time honored strategy at Walmart. In 2006 Walmart hired Terry Nelson, political director for Bush-Cheney 2004, to operate an in-store “voter education program.” Then, Walmart's “education” program was a thin veneer over concerted attacks against Democratic politicians. Today, we're seeing more of the same.

Don't let Walmart strong-arm its employees into voting against their own interests. Help us let the public know about the tasteless, immoral, possibly illegal meetings organized by Walmart.

Tell your friends about Walmart's outrageous electoral scare tactics today.

Lately, we've seen Walmart spend millions on marketing schemes to polish its image, even going so far as to tweak its name and logo. But, if you thought Walmart had changed, you were mistaken. Today's story shows that Walmart is still Wal-Mart: the same old irresponsible corporation that will stop at nothing to save a few extra dollars, even if it means intimidating its own employees.

I work for wal-mart, I think it can't be a bad thing, change is good. how much money does wal-mart need to make. spread the wealth wal-mart. take care of those who take care of you.

OK . So I'm lazy. It takes work to act the way you believe. I know Wal-Mart does not stand for the principles I believe in. But they're cheap, convenient & easy. I now have a list of stores that take Wally World's place. I pledge to act the way I believe.

I think the last comment shows that the media is right on this one. SK has been to the meetings, and comes away with the conclusion that unions can FORCE themselves into a contract with EFCA.

What walmart fails to tell these employees is that EFCA just allows them to VOTE for or against a union with ballots, and avoid employer intimidation.

Walmart doesnt want its employees to have a voice. It wants the status quo... which is why it is lying to its employees and bashing democrats.

fuck. walmart.

I've been to one of those meetings, and this is a complete lie. They aren't telling anything other than the truth. They talk about the bill, and state, TRUTHFULLY, might I add, that if it becomes law, that the worker's voice actually gets taken away. This law is the dumbest law ever thought up in a long time. It'll be the unions "strong arm"ing the employees with dishonest tactics to FORCE a union instead of holding an election, like what ought to be done.
