Chanting "Change Walmart, Change America," ACORN of Mississippi held a candle light prayer vigil in front of the Walmart on Wheatley Street in Ridgeland Tuesday night.
Members say through prayer they want to bring awareness to Walmart's practice of poverty level wages, unaffordable health care and not offering health care to families.
The group is launching a media campaign targeting Walmart for alleged anti-family labor policies.
They accuse the retail giant of putting profits ahead of employees and their families.
ACORN member LaRhonda Odom said, "Walmart being the largest retailer in the world, we feel that they ought to be able to supply their employees with a living wage and health benefits and a lot of people don't realize that taxpayers end up subsidizing the health benefits of Walmart employees because a lot of them are forced to go onto public assistance."
Management made no comment but asked the group to leave the store parking lot before the vigil began.
