The following statement can be attributed to Paul Blank, campaign director for WakeUpWalMart.com:

“We are disturbed to learn that Wal-Mart is violating Michigan state pricing laws on a ‘massive’ scale. As the largest retailer in America, Wal-Mart has a responsibility not only to follow the law, but to make sure consumers have the full pricing information they need when they shop.

The Michigan Attorney General’s findings are even more disturbing given recent pricing studies by the University of Illinois-Chicago Center and the University of California-Berkeley which found Wal-Mart charged customers the wrong price in excess of federal standards. The Midwest study, which sampled stores in Michigan, Illinois, and Indiana, found that 84.6% of the Wal-Mart stores sampled failed to meet the federal standard for price accuracy. The studies were released by WakeUpWalMart.com in November 2005.

Wal-Mart customers shouldn’t have to gamble with the price they pay at the register. We applaud efforts to protect consumers and we call on Wal-Mart to immediately address these serious pricing concerns in Michigan.”
