LAUNCHES INTERNET AD WITH A PATRIOTIC APPEAL TO “JOIN THE REVOLUTION TO TAKE BACK AMERICA”

Washington, DC - Today, WakeUpWalMart.com, America’s campaign to change Wal-Mart, launched the “Declare Your Independence from Wal-Mart” campaign. In the spirit of July 4th, WakeUpWalMart.com issued a patriotic call for all Americans to “join the revolution,” released a new TV-ad, and asked supporters to sign the “Declaration of Independence from Wal-Mart.”

Inspired by our founding fathers, the “Declaration of Independence from Wal-Mart,” calls on all Americans to once again stand up and defend America from big corporate interests like Wal-Mart who have declared war on America’s working families.

The Declaration lists Wal-Mart’s transgressions and tyranny over America’s working families, and asks Americans to hold Wal-Mart accountable for its record of abuses. Wal-Mart’s record of abuses include: shipping jobs overseas, breaking child labor laws, being sued by 2 million female employees for discrimination, and costing taxpayers billions of dollars. “Over two hundreds years ago, the American people proudly declared their independence from tyranny and oppression and fought to create a country of, by and for the American people. Unfortunately, America’s working families now face a new kind of tyranny from big corporations like Wal-Mart who are using our government to work against the American people. But now, beginning this July 4th, Americans can join a new grassroots revolution to take back America and help change Wal-Mart into a company that puts America and its workers first,” said Paul Blank, campaign director for WakeUpWalMart.com.

WakeUpWalMart.com also released a new-TV ad, titled “Declare Your Independence from Wal-Mart.” The patriotic ad with an inspiring call to action begins by stating, “Big corporations like Wal-Mart have declared war on America’s working people.” The ad points out that Wal-Mart’s record of shipping American jobs overseas, opposing expanding health care for working families, and even, lobbying to weaken port security hurts America.

In unique launch of this ad campaign, the “Declare Your Independence from Wal-Mart” spot will be released on YouTube.com - the popular website used to air video spots, commercials, and clips on a variety of political and cultural topics. The ad will also be used in an online ad campaign on such popular websites as Talkingpointsmemo.com, AmericaBlog, and smirkingchimp.com. In total, the online ad campaign will reach as many as 3 million page viewers a day.

We, the American people, hold these truths to be self-evident, that all Americans are created equal and all American workers have certain unalienable rights, including the right to a living wage, affordable health care, and a safe and just work place.

To secure and protect these rights the American people have the power to stand up to immoral and irresponsible corporations, like Wal-Mart, that sacrifice the greatness of this nation for their own self-interest and greed.

We have the power and a moral obligation to hold Wal-Mart accountable for its transgressions against America. As a company, Wal-Mart has needlessly sacrificed the best of America. And, that Wal-Mart's record speaks to all of these abuses:

Wal-Mart has shipped American jobs overseas; Wal-Mart has opposed expanding health care for working families; Wal-Mart has lobbied to weaken America's port security; Wal-Mart has broken child labor laws; Wal-Mart is being sued for discrimination by 2 million female employees; and, Wal-Mart costs Americans billions in tax dollars.

In light of these abuses on this nation, and for the sake of liberty and prosperity, we, as patriotic Americans, declare our independence from Wal-Mart and pledge to stand together in our fight to take back America.
