Mission Statement
Wal-Mart Workers of America (WWOA) is national association of current and former Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club workers who are joining together to create a new era of empowerment for Wal-Mart workers.

WWOA will be the first national association exclusively dedicated to improving workplace conditions, ensuring justice, and protecting and defending the rights of all Wal-Mart workers. WWOA will create a movement, built around social justice and fairness, to strengthen Wal-Mart workers' ability to improve their lives and make Wal-Mart a better company.

By joining together, WWOA will be a powerful voice and tool to help workers create change in their workplace and improve their employment conditions, treatment and benefits. WWOA will work nationwide to make Wal-Mart a responsible employer, to make Wal-Mart a better business, and, by doing so, to make America a better place – both for today and into the future.

As members of WWOA, these are our eight core beliefs:

  • We believe Wal-Mart must change into a more responsible employer that reflects the best of American values.
  • We believe by joining together, with a united voice, we are better able to help all Wal-Mart workers improve their conditions and receive the pay and benefits they deserve.
  • We believe Wal-Mart, a company with $10 billion in profits and $290 billion in sales, has a responsibility and accountability to its 1.3 million workers and the community – not just its wealthy shareholders.
  • We believe Wal-Mart has a responsibility to treat all of its workers fairly, equitably and with respect.
  • We believe Wal-Mart must provide its workers with a living wage, comprehensive health care every worker can afford, and real retirement security.
  • We believe Wal-Mart has a moral and legal obligation to respect and follow all state and federal labor laws. No worker should be the victim of personal or professional exploitation.
  • We believe, because Wal-Mart breaks the law and treats its workers unfairly, it is Wal-Mart’s responsibility to change and address these failures.
  • We believe making Wal-Mart a better company will not only improve the lives of its 1.3 million workers, but will improve the lives of all working people and help build a better America.

WWOA will work with Americans from all across the country, including more than 115,000 supporters of WakeUpWalMart.com, community activists, religious leaders, and labor unions, to form one powerful voice united for change. WWOA is committed to building a new social movement to empower Wal-Mart workers to force Wal-Mart to change its business practices.

We believe now is the time for all of us to join together and create a new ‘open door,’ a real ‘open door’ within Wal-Mart – an open door policy where hundreds of thousands of Wal-Mart workers stand together and demand fairness, equity, and justice.
